Chewning's Managing Director gets Arrested...

...for MDA. Lisa Demmi, Managing Director for Chewning Inspection Services, got arrested by MDA on Wednesday, Augsut 26th. She was charged with "being caring, good-natured and influential with her friends and associates AND sentenced to serve time at MDA's maximum appreciation jail site." Thanks to the efforts of Derek Lee, Anne Vickers, Maria Hochwarth-Alvarez, Dr. Tommy Lane, Tom Stanton, Suzy Giunta, Mercy Nunez, Kim Rothman, Robert Ahern, Ursula Geiger, Robin Walls, Gloria Fernandez, Jeanene Arrington, Larry Brooks, Lea Orchard, Carole Hagen, Glenda Kilpatrick and of course, Mama and Papa Chewning. Of course, jail was Ruth Chris' Steakhouse and you can imagine what their bread and water was like! With the help of all these kind individuals I was bale to raise nearly $600 for MDA. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity!

 

Team CIS makes it to the Finals of the Small Business of the Year!

I just wanted to let you all know that Chewning Inspection Services has made it to the finals of the Small Business of the Year sponsored by the Greater Tampa Chamber. All of you helped this happen because we wouldn't be where we are today without your help and support. This is a perfect example of the power of community and the ability to network across so many different boundaries...thank you and we'll keep you posted. Keep your fingers crossed!

Chewning partners with DeVry University for National Award

Chewning Inspection Services and DeVry University have forged a partnership. We work with students doing their senior thesis or projects in Human Resources, Organizational Change and Management. The first such project we did with DeVry resulted in a National Award for the class. We feel very fortunate to work with these talented students and their Professor Pat Knight. This kind of collaboration gives us invaluable feedback but also allows us to make a contribution to the future of our community by giving the leaders of tomorrow experience today. I applaud their determination and hard work as well as that of their professor. Congratulations to Ashlie Melillo, Stephanie Hippensteel and Lynn Kohler along with Prof. Pat Knight...well deserved! Newschannel 8 and Stacie Schaible visit CIS

This past Monday, Newschannel 8 and Stacie Schaible visited CIS to do a story on small businesses and the help available for them in the current unhealthy economy. Stacie and Jay came over 10 am Monday morning and proceeded to interview Lisa Demmi, our Managing Director, and Anne Vickers, President/ Owner of AMV Consulting. As Anne so perfectly put it, we'll be getting 2 of our 30 minutes of fame this week as the story will be broadcast on both Thursday night and Friday morning and afternoon. Stacie and Jay were great! they hung out a little and talked antique cars with Roger Chewning, our President and founder. We are very proud and excited and as soon as we get a copy, we'll post the story here as well. In the meantime, here are some pictures of the event!

     

Big Cat Rescue

This past weekend, The Chewninng family and extended members went to visit Big Cat Rescue over in the Citrus Park area. Jeff Kremer was our entertaining and knowledgeable guide and took us on a tour we won't soon likely forget. Wow! What a facility they have there! We got to see and hear about several of the cats as well as the gournds and Jeff tells us we only scratched the surface. They exist pretty much on donations and sponsorship. Chewning Inspection Services & Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay join forces to improve West Tampa

Chewning Inspection Services (CIS) is partnering with Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay (RTTB) along with several other builders and local businesses to help repair houses in the West Tampa area. Beginning December 2008 CIS joined forces with RTTB to recognize the needs of people here in the local communities. RTTB is national organization with a branch here in Tampa. Their purpose is to improve the lives of local families by helping turn their houses into homes. On Friday, January 30^th, approximately 1,300 volunteers will work on 19 homes in the West Tampa area. These homes are all in various stages of need. Some require electric or roofs, others merely want mirrors in their bathrooms or washers and dryers installed. CIS has donated all of the inspections for these 19 homes as well as working with Intown Homes to complete the repairs on one home out of the 19. CIS and its staff of inspectors have been performing general inspections as well as any permit inspections as required by the city. Our reason for joining this effort is two-fold. We try to be as community-minded as possible and want to help people locally. Second, in this economic downturn, we at CIS realize the importance of sticking together and working alongside each other. What better way to form community than this. RTTB plans to complete work on over 70 houses this year and will have another major event in April.

CIS is a local inspection/engineering firm that currently covers all of Florida, southern Georgia and is poised to move into Mississippi in the next few weeks. We have highly qualified inspectors, friendly staff and a turnaround time of less than 72 hours. We are a one stop shop for commercial and residential inspections, engineering, plans review and some in-house design. Some of our recent and/or current customers are the New York Yankees, Lowry Park Zoo, Crate & Barrel and James A. Haley VA Hospital properties.
